Beto O’Rourke for US Senate
Progressive candidate. US Representative from Texas. Doesn’t accept PAC money. Significant contributors include J Street, University of Texas, AT&T, Democracy Engine. Top industries giving to his campaign: agribusiness, finance/real estate, lawyers/lobbyists, ideology. Participates in protests against Trump immigration policy, sit in in House of reps that attempted to force a vote on gun control. Strong criminal justice reform platform: He supports an end of cash bail, Marijuana offenses expunged from arrest records, and the elimination of private for-profit prisons. He is endorsed by NARAL and Planned Parenthood. O’Rourke is the progressive choice for the interests of Black and working class people in Texas.
Justin Nelson for Attorney General
Incumbent. Law Professor at UT Austin. Former law clerk to Sandra Day O’Connor. Cornerstone of his campaign is strong stance on gerrymandering/congressional re-mapping. Additionally, rallying his opponents indictment on securities fraud to argue he is the “ethical candidate.”Weak on policing and incarceration issues. Supported the school that expelled young black female student for not standing during the pledge of allegiance. Majority of contributions come from lawyers/lobbyists and unions. Endorsed by TX AFL-CIO. Plans to withdraw Texas from lawsuit to end DACA, as well as the lawsuit to repeal ACA. Nelson believes that family separation at the border and elsewhere in regard to immigration is a humanitarian crisis.
